Brooke In Hospital Shortly After Belfast City Council Dog Wardens Seized Lennox

When Belfast City Council dog wardens come to responsible dog owners homes and wrongfully seize much loved family pets do they stop for a moment at anytime and consider the damage they cause to not only the dog but the family? No, they obviously don’t and clearly these heartless people’s only concern is their annual targets and figures. Twelve year old Brooke fell victim to the Belfast Council’s ruthless ways when her best friend was seized by wardens almost seven months ago and she has never seen him since. This little girl who spent so much time with her dog pleaded to wardens not to take her dog but wardens did so regardless of tears and cries from little Brooke. The Belfast Council have continually said in certain statements since Lennox’s seizure that they do not make the laws but “are only enforcing laws laid out by the DARD” (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) which doesn’t really wash well with the hundreds of thousands of Lennox supporters from around the globe, everyone clearly understands that these wardens and Belfast Council have to enforce these laws and there has never been any argument about such however it is the tactics, misidentification, lies and the way in which Belfast City Council and their dog wardens have targeted easy responsible dog owners and how the council go about enforcing such laws and legislations which is the problem.

On the 19th May 2010 Lennox was taken from his loving family with the use of a wrongly addressed warrant, the council used copyrighted material to attempt identification of Lennox’s breed even though the council have issued a dog licence every year for the last five years and already know from his licence that he is a American Bull dog Labrador cross and to raise public anger further the council drafted a certain breed expert from mainland UK twice to attempt identification of Lennox, this council expert paid with tax payers money has since based his report of Lennox on two one hour visits to a dog who is already nervous and has been kept caged in solitary confinement without human interaction, exercise, toys for mental stimulation, proper bedding, proper food and a clear lack of a fresh water supply, yet this expert now claims after these two one hour assessments that Lennox should be put to death and never see the light of day again. After almost six years of owning Lennox the family have never had any concerns or issues with Lennox, yet after the council have had Lennox inhumanely caged for almost seven months they are attempting to secure his immediate death through a Crown Court on the 23rd November 2010 where the council Barrister and council breed expert from mainland UK will take the witness stand and under oath portray Lennox to be some kind of aggressive, crazed demon animal. You heard it here first, and when they stand before a Judge in court and state such lies ask yourself this; How has a little girl and her family who foster dogs for animal shelters owned a beautiful dog for almost six years without problem and yet the council have had him almost seven months and suddenly he is evil, what must the council have done to him in this time?

The Daily Mirror Newspaper was granted access to the family’s most private, most painful secret recently and permitted permission to print the story of Brooke. This story needed to be told as it clearly demonstrates the mental and physical damage the Belfast City Council, council dog wardens and experts have caused to a little twelve year old girl by separating and removing her pet.  This is the story of a little child’s suffering caused by the Belfast City Council, a story the council don’t want people to see and the story that Belfast City Councillors ignore whilst they keep quiet within council chambers after they have received little notes telling them to do so. To date no councillor has agreed to meet the family or the little girl and listen to their concerns regarding Lennox, mistakes made by Belfast City Council and their hired help, no councillor has acknowledged emails or messages sent by the family pleading for a meeting to stop this cruel deed or to help them begin changing the dog laws in Northern Ireland which currently lay redundant. When election time comes again to Northern Ireland how many of these council members and the political parties they are assigned to will suddenly knock on your door asking for your vote? When that day comes again remember Lennox’s outcome, give thought for little broken hearted Brooke whom those people awaiting your vote ignored even when the little girl cried out to them asking for help!

totally uncalled for bcc have been ignoring posts on their facebook page and removing comments…it would not suprise me if poor lennox was no longer with us(i really hope that is not the case) but why else would they not atleast give some info on how he is doing

wishing lennox a safe return home if he is still with us

  2. thank you daily mirror for this brilliant article – it is so very sad to see & know this heartbroken family & to see a beautiful family dog who knew only love to end up in such a state because belfast city council will not admit they were wrong from the beginning & refuse to do the decent thing – praying that justice will be done & sweet lennox will be returned to his loving family where he belongs ♥

thanx to the daily mirror… you have highlighted poor Lennox’s plight, hopefully Lennox will be returned this week coming after the court case….
I cannot understand why the people WE have elected are ignoring all contact regarding Lennox… they should all be very ashamed of themselves!!!!!!!!!!!!

BCC dog wardens should be locked in a sawdust prison in their own faeces. Yolanda Elwood who stole Lennox from his home claims to be a dog lover! I wonder how she would be 7 months down the line without human contact and her family? Probably the same as she is now, sad and some what demented. BCC have a lot to answer for.

  5. The photo of Lennox in his cage shows a terrified dog, if you look his ears are down and pulled back and his eyes are very big and dilated. He appears to be recoiling back as well, which could only be away from the human who is taking his photo. Writing this is breaking my heart because BCC have obviously broke his spirit. Please let Lennox come home, do not adjurn the case on tuesday do the right thing. Shame on you BCC

  6. Thank you Daily Mirror ,, At last a national paper has picked up on this sad sad story…. lets hope it helps to give this family a happy ending …. Poor Lennox .. my heart bleeds for him .

This is disgusting, BSL has gone on long enough, shouldn’t have even been there in the first place, Britain is suppose to be a nation of dog lovers, can the government not see any further than the end of their noses??

I’ve posted this in the news section of my forum and linked it back to this page, hope you don’t mind.

I have sent an official complaint to Belfast City Council about their incompetent Dog Warden’s…who snatched Lennox and then are unable or unwilling to justify their actions or even answer e-mails.

  10. 23rd November is my Birthday. I will be praying and thinking of Lennox and I hope that he gets to come home. He has done nothing wrong!

As a proffessional dog trainer and behaviourist the actions of Belfast City Council shock me to the core at both a proffessional and personal level.
7 months of living in this squalor can damage a dog psychologically beyond repair, those at the council know that if Lennox is free’d he will be a different dog to the one that they took so unjustly, WITH AN INCORRECT WARRENT NO LESS from the whole family and more importantly, from a sick little girl.

I have emailed the Council several times regarding Lennox and their dog policy in general, but have never received a proper response.

Brooke – Please get well soon my darling Lennox needs you to be strong for him, my thoughts are with you all xxx

Lennox must not be allowed to die at the hands of the evil belfast city council. I hope the magistrate sees sense & throws the book at them & make them pay for Lennox’s costs & make them pay compensation. BCC must not be allowed to steal dogs. Let them clear the streets of dangerous owners & their dangerous dogs not barge into a family’s house & snatch a much loved pet dog.

  12. Here is the real stroy of a loving family and a wonderful dog who is the best pal of a disabled child. He has never done anything wrong, has been such a good dog that rescues are happy for this lovely family to foster dogs for them. Yet after 6 years of being granted a dog licence, this suddenly happens. It is cruel, it is wrong, it is abhorrent. Today is Children in Need, and the one thing this poor child needs more than anything else is to have this incredible dog back home where he belongs instead of being imprisoned in the most terrible conditions. He needs to go haome as soon as possible, back to the loving caring, experienced and nurturing environment where he calls home. Well done to the Daily Mirror for reporting this.

This is institutional cruelty towards an innocent dog. If a member of the public neglected a dog in this way they would be prosecuted by animal welfare authorities. Why then is Belfast City Council allowed to be cruel to an animal and get away with it? Why is this family having to endure this mental and physical distress at the taxpayers expense? Breed bans are death sentences that do not address the situation of bad ownership. This responsible family are victims of a bad law and I hope justice will prevail and Lennox will be freed.

Hi there, my name is Lisa and I live in the US. I’ve been fighting for you you’re family and beloved LENNOX for 2months now, every day! I say it aint over til it’s over, always stay hopeful til the very last second! I promised Lennox that when he gets home, If I could get permission from you, his family after he’s re-settled in, however long that takes; I would love to come to your country and meet him!! The reason I spent many a nights working on emails to BBC, Prime Minister, Stephen Nolan Show, Belfast city council , numerous complaints sent to them, my own profile page updating notes to help Lennox, getting everyone possible to sign his petition. What a journey it has been, I can’t wait for him to get out of there, so he can be where he belongs! Right by your side Brooke! And with the countless number of blessings you have coming from around the world ~ I think and hope with all my heart, that’s where he will be :0) I want you to know how many wonderful friends I’ve made along the way. Special people that CARE enough and to try to help others. To make a difference, they never give up even when you felt like you might not win, they kept the morale going in a positive direction and the mood upbeat!! The best group of winners you could ever want to go to bat for you! I will always have each one, I hope, as apart of my life thanks to a common agenda! Our Love for LENNOX an adorable precious dog that was wrongfully mistaken for someone else and our ruthless battle to get him free! May Justice Prevail !!!!! Please bring LOVELY LENNOX HOME xoxoxo Lisa

  18. Thank you to the daily mirror for writeing this article on lennox and the truth behind the case. The council should be ashamed of themselfs takeing a loveing pet away from a hild thats ill. i pray he gets released to his family tommorrow. hes a well loved pet and its disgusting who the people who work for the counil agree with there actions. sorry but people that do this are bully’s takeing the problems out on innocent dog’s. not only affecting the dog but the young child.

The council needs to admit there mistake and release lennox.

im absolute disgusted with belfast council.

i will never visit belfast again if lennox lose’s his life.

BCC we are all watching. You can fix this wrong. Peace to all and peace to Lennox and his family.

  20. I can not believe that this dog has not been returned to its caring responsible owners. I hope that when Lennox is returned that this family sues the Belfast Council for their mistakes. This law should only be in force for actual dangerous dogs not family law abiding pets. I will keep fighting for Lennox’s return with my fellow friends here in Australia.

  21. AkiraNo Gravatar says:

I can´t believe they haven´t give you the Lennox back yet!! The BCC evaluate peoples dogs but….. who evaluates them? they are doing things wrong and they don´t seen to give a sh**t. So disgusting!!! : o (

  22. Trial by Tape Measure…it has to be one of the sickest jokes ever thought up by humans!

I hope and pray that Lennox will soon be home where he belongs, and his family can begin to heal the scars of the dreadful trauma Lennox has suffered.

  24. I’ve shared this link on the Belfast City Council’s Facebook page a few times now and each time it’s been removed.

This time I’ve posted it with a message saying:

Now taking bets on how long it will take before this link is removed again… Spread the word and help save an innocent family and their beloved family pet.

I’ve also posted the link in their album of profile pictures so anyone who is looking at photos of Belfast will see it straight away.
